Chansiri must be worried about Rohl future at Sheffield Wednesday after new journalist claim - opinion

Dejphon Chansiri should be very concerned about Danny Rohl’s future at Sheffield Wednesday after a journalist’s latest claims.

Sheffield Wednesday face losing a long list of names at the club this summer, with a majority of the starting line-up out of contract this summer.

Fans will be much more worried about the manager though, with Danny Rohl‘s future remaining in doubt as they head into the final three matches of the campaign.

The German has only been at Hillsborough for six months, in what is his first ever job in management. He was truly transformed the club already though, and supporters are desperate to see him stay beyond the summer.

Rohl has been very tight-lipped on the situation and, like the players, his future could all depend on whether Wednesday are relegated in a few weeks.

There hasn’t been a great deal of interest in his signature reported, but one club that have consistently been rumoured to be eager on snapping Rohl up is Sunderland.

Mike Dodds is currently taking charge of the Black Cats until the end of the season, before they appoint a new permanent successor, with many reports recently claiming that Rohl is an option.

Sunderland ‘crave’ the traits of Danny Rohl

Their interest hasn’t progressed much further since, however Sunderland Echo journalist Phil Smith has now claimed that their owner ‘seems to crave’ what Rohl could bring to the table – which is not a good sign for the Owls.

Speaking on The Roar podcast, Smith said: “Danny Rohl would make a lot of sense to me. He has what Kyril seems to crave, and what his statement from when Tony Mowbray was sacked seems to crave, which is a (in very heavy inverted commas here) an elite coaching pedigree. That seems to be Kyril’s primary desire; someone who’s worked in an elite-like environment.”

He added: “He has an ultra-aggressive playing style; Sheffield Wednesday have not almost got themselves out of trouble by sort of, defending in a low block and knicking set pieces. They have a go, so again, that ticks a box.”

What will make the German stay at Hillsborough?

By the sound of it, Danny Rohl is pretty much exactly what Sunderland are looking for.

His time with the likes of RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich is certainly something interested suitors won’t be able to ignore, and is exactly what will make keeping hold of him difficult for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 34-year-old seems to have been a target for the Black Cats for some months now, but Smith’s comments suggest he is much higher up on their shortlist than previously expected.

Whether Rohl will want to move to their Championship rivals remains to be seen, but he would surely be tempted to pick the Owls over Wearside if they are able to avoid relegation.

Sunderland may currently have a particularly promising squad and an ambitious owner, but Rohl has definitely seen potential in this Wednesday squad and could take them to completely new heights with a full summer window and pre-season under his belt.
