'Big praise': Dom Howson compares 27-year-old to former Sheffield Wednesday ace after saving Owls career

Dom Howson has ‘big praise’ for one Sheffield Wednesday star who has been compared to Jack Hunt.

Sheffield Wednesday are coming to the end of their first season back in the Championship, though it is yet to be seen whether they will be returning in four months time.

The Owls have come very far sinceDanny Rohl arrived at the club though, having picked up only three wins in their first 21 matches of the campaign, compared to nine in their second.

Results have impressed and so many players’ performances have also improved, with the likes of Di’Shon Bernard, Marvin Johnson and Liam Palmer receiving high praise recently.

The Owls have had a mixed bag of results from their transfers this term though, with arrivals such as Ashley Fletcher, Jeff Hendrick and Momo Diaby failing to impress.

However, one man who had previously looked to also be on that list of flops but has since turned his career around at Hillsborough isPol Valentin.

The Spaniard joined from Sporting Gijon in the summer and was in and out of the team as he struggled to adapt to Championship football.

However, he has now started 13 of the last 16 games in the second tier and has become a ‘fan favourite’, with his ability to push forward up the flank proving really useful on the attack for Rohl’s side.

Pol Valentin has ‘turned around’ his career

Journalist Dom Howson has praised Valentin and has compared him to one former Sheffield Wednesday star.

Writing on X, Howson said: “Big praise for Pol Valentin and how he has turned around his #SWFC career. Reminds me a little of Jack Hunt with his energy and desire to get forward down the right.

“Still needs to improve his defensive work but he has done pretty well in his first year in English football.”

Can the Spaniard carry it into next season?

Jack Hunt spent a total of five years at Sheffield Wednesday over three spells, making 180 appearances and claiming 17 assists.

The defender enjoyed plenty of success on the right for the Owls and supporters will be hoping that Valentin can continue developing under Rohl in the Championship, though that could depend on the league they are in.

Valentin is thought to be only earning around £2k-per-week at Hillsborough so could definitely be afforded in League One, where he could well tear it up after a solid first showing in the second tier.

Though he will surely be eager to continue playing under Rohl, like most of the squad.
