HITC has spoken to Liverpool sources about the links to Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
Gasperini has done a remarkable job with Atalanta during his eight-year tenure and has been named Serie A coach of the year twice during that time.
He masterminded their demolition of Liverpool at Anfield last week in the first-leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash and they face them again in Bergamo on Thursday.
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini linked with Liverpool job
Some reports have linked the 66-year-old with the Liverpool’s manager’s job – which is being vacated by Klopp this summer.
Gasperini spoke to the press ahead of the clash with their second-leg and he was asked about the links.
“Of course, I am happy with links to Liverpool job to replace Klopp but my focus is on the game,” he told Sky Italia.
“We can’t be distracted by this kind of links or stories, we have to focus on the upcoming games.
“We know that it will be one of the most important games in our history, if not the most important, but these are things that are said on the eve of the game, then comes the moment when we will have to know how to isolate ourselves”
Gasperini not a candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp
Despite the links, HITC sources have confirmed that Gasperini is not in contention to replace Jurgen Klopp.
We are told that clearly a huge talent and is clearly respected, he is just not in the reckoning.
HITC has confirmed that Ruben Amorim is now Liverpool’s first choice following Xabi Alonso’s decision to stay with Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool, have and, are holding talks with Amorim’s agents and we understand he is ready to make the move to Anfield.
HITC understands that Liverpool have considered other options including Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann and Thiago Motta – but Amorim is their first choice.
