Kieran Gibbs says Inter Miami have a 'dangerous' player who reminds him of Tottenham great Mousa Dembele

Kieran Gibbs has likened one current Inter Miami star to Tottenham icon Mousa Dembele, who is regarded as one of the north London side’s best-ever Premier League players.

The former Belgian international played an integral role in Mauricio Pochettino’s iconic Spurs side that made it to the 2019 UEFA Champions League final featuring the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and England captain Harry Kane.

A dynamic midfielder who also played at the FIFA World Cup with Belgium, Dembele’s name is one that comes with a lot of respect in Premier League circles, with former Inter Miami star Gibbs a player who has faced the midfielder on a number of occasions.

And Gibbs now thinks one player in Inter Miami’s squad is similar to Dembele.

Diego Gomez likened to Dembele after Inter Miami breakthrough

Speaking on the Inter Miami CF Weekly Show, Gibbs compared Diego Gomez to the former Tottenham midfielder, with the Paraguay international coming off the back of one of his best performances to date with the Herons.

The 21-year-old scored and bagged an assist in a 3-2 win against Sporting Kansas City, with Tata Martino praising Gomez for his performance, and Gibbs has now also joined the bandwagon for the Inter Miami midfielder.

Gibbs said: “It was evident to me pretty early that there’s a real player in there. What separates him from the rest of the pack when he’s performing well is his physicality. He’s a big boy, but also very explosive, and he can move quickly and he has good feet.

“So when you have that, when you combine all those things together, he’s more superior on the pitch physically than a lot of players, he’s blessed that way. He reminds me of a player I used to play against, Dembele of Tottenham, he had a similar stature, they move similarly, and those types of players are really dangerous. As defenders, we hate playing these guys.”

Herons have a real star on their hands in Gomez

Gomez has arguably been the breakout star for Inter Miami this season, with the Paraguayan midfielder proving impossible to drop for Tata Martino after making a stellar return from injury with the Florida franchise.

And the 21-year-old’s performances are now starting to attract interest from Europe, with Gomez a player who could soon make the leap across the Atlantic if he continues to perform for Inter Miami.

Indeed, the Herons know they will have to cash in on Gomez one day, and this summer could be the ideal window to do so if the South American dynamo continues his incredible run of form for Inter Miami.
