Club chief says 23-yo West Ham owned player doesn't know if he'll be a Hammer next season

A really strange swipe has just been taken at West Ham United, regarding out treatment of Andy Irving.

West Ham boss David Moyes signed the 23-year-old from SK Austria Klagenfurton transfer deadline day in the summer of 2023, and then immediately loaned him back to the Austrian outfit.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined the Hammers as part of a link up between the East London outfit and SK Austria Klagenfurt.

The former Hearts midfielder’s loan deal with the Austrian side is up at the end of the season, so what does the future hold for him?

Irving recently admitted that it is his dream to play for the West Ham first-team. I have to say though, I think his chances of doing just that are slim to say the least.

I can’t envisage a scenario whereby Irving ever actually plays for us. He’s been struggling out in Germany this season, so what hope does he have of making it with West Ham in the Premier League?

Managing Director aims bizarre dig at West Ham about Andy Irving

Irving has been struggling out in Austria this season.

He hasn’t started a league game for SK Austria Klagenfurt since March 10th, and has played just 137 minutes of action since then (Transfermarkt).

The 23-year-old seems to be struggling with his confidence, and certainly hasn’t had any kind of rhythm over the past couple of months.

The SK Austria Klagenfurt managing director has claimed that Irving still doesn’t know where he’ll be playing his football next season, as quoted by Sky Sports Austria:

“Of course the transfer does something to a player and it’s the same with him. Andy was still in the third German league two years ago. It’s a huge step for Andy, this transfer, and it’s done something to him. I am convinced that he will still play an important role in the remaining games, and we will see where we go but this all has something to do with a young player not knowing exactly where he will be next year. We will see whether he will actually train with West Ham and play or whether he will continue to be loaned out.”

I’m not sure that the midfielder’s poor form can be put down to not knowing where he’s playing next season.

He’s obviously just going through a bad run, with his confidence lower than a snake’s belly right now.

I have no doubt that West Ham will send Andy Irving out on loan again in the summer. I just can’t see him having any kind of future at the London Stadium.
