A decision has been made: Yerson Mosquera informs Wolves where he wants to play next season

Yerson Mosquera, who is on loan to Spanish side Villarreal, has made a decision on his Wolves future.

Plenty of the first-team have stood out this season under Gary O’Neil. This has helped transform the club from relegation-battlers to a mid-table Premier League side.

However, despite the form this season, there is plenty of room for improvement from the squad.

One area that has been consistently highlighted throughout the campaign is the defence. Wolves continue to concede sloppy goals with regular clean sheets becoming a thing of the past.

This has caused the club to search for a defender for next season. However, there could be a great option right under their noses.

Mosquera was signed by Wolves back in 2021 but has had little success in the first-team. After debuting against Spurs in the EFL Cup, he was forced off after just nine minutes with an injury.

With no first-team appearances on the horizon, the defender joined MLS side FC Cincinnati where he enjoyed a fantastic loan spell. The Colombian helped the side win the Supporters Shield before joining Villareal on loan in January 2024.

Here, his form has continued with the centre-half playing nine times and even netting in the Europa League.

When questioned about his immediate future, O’Neil responded that he plans for the defender next season, stating that “he will be assessed before a decision is made”.

However, reports in Spain also indicated that Mosquera may plan to stay in Spain long-term.

Now, a recent report has cleared up where Mosquera’s future lies as the summer approaches.

Ahead of the summer, Wolves have now potentially received a boost as Mosquera makes a decision about where his loyalties lie.

According to Relevo, the defender desires to continue his career with Wolves and he was just waiting for an ‘ok’ from the Molineux side.

This he now seemingly has after O’Neil’s comments expressing his desire to have the defender at least for pre-season.

This will be a massive boost for Wolves who have not only struggled for quality at the back but also depth.

The club only has four first-team centre-backs despite playing a back three. This has caused some tricky situations, especially when one has got injured or suspended.

Luckily, with Mosquera on his way back into the fold, Wolves will surely have healthy competition for the centre-back position next campaign.
