Jurgen Klopp will be dreaming of one last Liverpool comeback in Europe on Thursday night as his side go to Atalanta with a 3-0 first-leg deficit, and a place in the Europa League semi-finals at stake in Italy.
A brace from Gianluca Scamacca and a late tap-in from Mario Pasalic saw Atalanta produce one of the biggest result of the entire competition so far. It leaves Liverpool in need of a miracle on Thursday night.
The Reds of course are renowned for the ability to produce comebacks. The magical night in Istanbul in 2005, where Liverpool came from three goals down to draw 3-3 and win the Champions League in 2005.
Dortmund at Anfield, Barcelona at Anfield. Liverpool are capable and have shown they can do it under Klopp – but away from home? Well, the tables have turned – the stakes are different. A huge task, ahead.
Danny Murphy predicts Liverpool clash against Atalanta
But this is Liverpool and anything is possible under the guidance of Klopp – especially, with The Reds gaffer set to leave at the end of the season. The players will feel they have something to owe the boss.
Can Liverpool do it again? Well, Danny Murphy believes there is a chance of a late comeback – telling TalkSPORT that if the Reds score an early goal, then it will pile the pressure on Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.
“We will see chaos. We will see Liverpool go 100 miles an hour from minute one. It wouldn’t surprise me if Liverpool go through. If Liverpool get the first goal a few of the Atalanta players will get nervous,” he said.

What the Reds got wrong last time out was their inability to beat Gasperini’s press. Atalanta penned Liverpool back into their own half and did it throughout the first half, scoring from it. It worked superbly.
The second half saw Atalant sit back and let Liverpool come onto them. Atalanta dictated the terms at Anfield and Klopp cannot let that happen again, tonight. The Reds need an early goal, to score first.
It is rare to see Klopp outsmarted tactically by another manager but Gasperini did it at Anfield. Now in Bergamo, Klopp has got to show why he is one of the world’s best, and do it back to Gasperini tonight.
