Report: Arsenal now handed significant late boost ahead of Bayern Munich clash tonight

Arsenal may not quite be in a position where they need to salvage their season, but things have certainly got a little nervier in recent days.

The Gunners fell to a shock 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday to help put Manchester City in the driver’s seat at the top of the Premier League table.

Obviously there could well be more twists and turns, but City are notorious for being almost unstoppable in the run-in.

Arsenal will need to quickly put that to one side and focus on another pressing task at hand, namely the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

The Gunners played out a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich last week, so it’s now all to play for at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.

And Arsenal appear to have received a significant boost in terms of their squad fitness.

What boost have Arsenal received ahead of Bayern Munich clash in Champions League?

There were doubts over the fitness of Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka ahead of the Champions League quarter-final second-leg trip to Munich.

The Arsenal captain was forced off at the end of Sunday’s defeat to Aston Villa, while Saka has suffered from some knocks in recent weeks and is often seen limping.

On Tuesday, Mikel Arteta told reporters: “We have done very little training. We will assess them tomorrow and see how they are.”

However, according to the Evening Standard, Odegaard and Saka are both fit and ‘expected to start against Bayern’.

This is obviously great news, based on the report. Odegaard and Saka are indispensable players, and for Arsenal’s biggest game of the season so far, they’d be a huge miss.

Indeed, the only player who appears to be a major doubt is Jurrien Timber, who has been sidelined for most of the season. He won’t be match fit just yet, so he’s unlikely to feature.
