Ronny Deila's surprise Celtic return as former manager pencilled in for awards

Celtic managers have come and gone over the years, each leaving their own telling impact at Parkhead before moving on to new pastures.

One man whose name is warmly received among the support is former boss Ronny Deila, who arrived from Elitiserien outfit Stromsgodset in 2014.

The 48-year-old spent 2014/15 and 2015/16 at Celtic, winning back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles and the Scottish League Cup.

In 2016, it became clear that change may be needed in the dugout, paving the way for Brendan Rodgers to step in; however, fans will always respect his passion for the club and ability to forge a young team packed with talent that would go on to succeed in future years at Parkhead.

Kristoffer Ajer, Ryan Christie, Stuart Armstrong, Dedryck Boyata, and Patrick Roberts were signed under his watch; meanwhile, Callum McGregor and Kieran Tierney were given their platform from the academy to shine in the first-team by the Norwegian.

Since leaving Celtic, Deila has enjoyed spells at Valerenga, New York City (winning the MLS in 2021), Standard Liege and most recently, Club Brugge, though he is now awaiting a new managerial challenge.

Ronny Deila returns for Celtic POTY award ceremony

As we all know, Celtic are holding their annual Player of the Year award ceremony at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow, with tickets still available via Ticketmaster.

The club have announced their nominees for the main prize as follows: Joe Hart, Kyogo Furuhashi, Callum McGregor, Liam Scales, Greg Taylor, Daizen Maeda, Matt O’Riley, and Alistair Johnston.

Now, Celtic have confirmed that Deila will be one of the presenters at the special night on May 12th, allowing supporters the chance to see one of their former heroes take centre stage.
