Leon Goretzka finds one word to describe Eric Dier's performance against Arsenal last night

Struggling to play at Tottenham and lacking his best form since the Mauricio Pochettino era at Spurs, Eric Dier left the club January after almost 10 years – and joined Bayern Munich. A bit of a shock move.

Given his lack of game time under Ange Postecoglou and the belief that Dier‘s best years were behind him – the chance to move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs was somewhat surprising among Spurs fans.

But since then, Dier has been excellent. His form enough to push for a late place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad ahead of Euro 2024. He’s overtaken Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae in Bayern’s side.

On Wednesday night, he starred. WhoScored say he two headers, made four tackles and clocked up three interceptions. A rating of 7.54. Dier has been utterly wonderful for Bayern since his exit from Tottenham.

His performance in helping stop Arsenal and keeping a cheet alongside Matthijs delight saw Jamie O’Hara say he was man of the match. Dier is loving life and his Tottenham loan will be made permanent.

Indeed, Dier will join permanently from Spurs in the summer – signing a contract until the summer of 2025. He took to Instagram on Thursday morning, underlining his delight at the win over The Gunners.

Leon Goretzka’s one word to describe Eric Dier’s Bayern display

What a win for Bayern. With the League gone, they had to get a result to keep their season meaningful. Harry Kane has been ridiculed for joining a side that may not win any titles come the end of the season.

But they took a giant leap towards the Champions League final, with Real Madrid now favourites to win the entire thing – if they can get past Dier and Bayern. But Dier was exceptional for Bayern on Wednesday.

Dier will remain on Tottenham’s books until his current contract expires at Spurs – which is due to end in the summer. But Bayern have confirmed they will buy him from Spurs, when that deal comes to an end.

Leon Goretzka responded, describing Dier as a machine – on his Instagram profile.
