I sold six items on Vinted in my first 48 hours, follow these tips to flog your old clothes

I did a bit of spring cleaning last week and decided to clear out my wardrobe. There were loads of things I hadn’t worn in months, some of them even years. Two pairs of jeans, some shorts, a couple of dresses, and even a hat.

In a bid to get some of the money I paid for it all back, I decided to download Vinted and upload all the items on there on a whim. I didn’t really expect any of it to sell, but all six items I uploaded sold within a just two days – here are my tips.

My Vinted selling tips

1. Take good photos

My first tip for selling on the app is to take good photos. I made sure to spend time taking clear, good quality pictures in proper lighting that show the item well.

It’s a bit time-consuming, but taking the time to capture great images is key for a quick sell. People simply won’t buy if they can’t see the item properly.

2. Iron the clothes

Another time-consuming one, but I took time to wash and iron the clothes, which I think made the world of difference when it came to selling quickly.

A wrinkled-up dress doesn’t look great in photos, and it’s likely to put people off. If they do buy, they’ll probably want a cheaper price.

3. Be realistic about price

Next up, I was realistic when choosing the price and never listed an item too expensive, because it just won’t sell.

It’s hard to let an item go for half or even a quarter of what you paid for it, but it’s better to flog the item than have it sitting in your home.

4. Upload lots at once

Vinted hasn’t confirmed it, but people have a theory that uploading loads of things at once pushes your items to the top of the search.

People are way more likely to buy the things listed first and can’t be bothered to keep scrolling, and it makes sense that more active users will take priority.

5. Include all information

It might seem simple, but make sure you list all the information someone could possibly need. That way, they don’t have to ask any questions and can hit ‘Buy’ straight away.

I wrote everything in the description, including the brand, size, style, fit and color. Make sure to say how worn the item is too.

6. Use a good title

The picture says a thousand words, but the title plays an important role too. Make sure you choose a good headline that highlights the most important information in just a few key words.

I found that using four to seven words and stating the color, brand and type of item worked perfectly. There’s no need to put the size, because there’s a separate section for that.

Expert’s selling advice

E-commerce expert Greg Zakowicz told The Focus: “For Vinted, product images may be the most important dimension to selling items, followed by the description.”

He said a lack of quality images will cause shoppers to “scroll right by,” so you should be sure to include multiple images from different angles and use good lighting.

“When possible, create a more professional-looking background versus laying the product on the floor. This can help instill a sense of trustworthiness in the seller,” he added.

Zakowicz also said a detailed description should be used to “complement your images”. If you have wear and tear, point that out and showcase it in an image.

The description can also include measurements and even subtle details such as how the product fits on a person of a particular size.
