Report: Crystal Palace now want "top drawer" £40m player that Ian Wright thinks is pure quality

This summer is set to be a busy one for Crystal Palace and now their admiration for one top-class player has been reported.

For Oliver Glasner, this summer will be all about raising the technical level within the Crystal Palace squad.

We’ve seen on a few occasions already that the side is lacking in this department right now, with some sloppy mistakes making the new style not quite at the optimal level right now.

However, the Austrian will have been expecting this when taking over a squad which Roy Hodgson had been in charge of, although he won’t want this to remain the case.

This makes the summer huge for Glasner, and he’ll be keen for a quick start. Now, it’s been reported that Palace are in admiration of one player who’d automatically become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

Let’s have a look at who’s been linked…

Crystal Palace admire Emile Smith Rowe

So it comes according to a report from the Daily Mail, that Palace are admirers of Arsenal outcast Emile Smith Rowe.

It’s mentioned in the article that the Gunners are considering which peripheral figures they can sell to bolster finances to strengthen this summer.

For Smith Rowe, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was keen on an exit, he’s been linked away for the entire season and has been used sparingly by Mikel Arteta.

The only sticking point would be his asking price of £40m a figure which has been thrown around concerning his links to Chelsea last summer.

This a number, however, Arsenal might find tough to receive, considering his stock has definitely dropped this season.

Alongside the link to Smith Rowe in the report, once again Palace were credited as an interested party for Eddie Nketiah, as he continues to be an option up front after interest in January.

But would Smith Rowe be a good signing? Let’s have a look.

Should Dougie Freedman buy Smith Rowe?

At the age of just 23, Arsenal No. 10, Smith Rowe still has everything on his side to reach the levels he showed early in his career, warranting the label of being “top drawer” by Ian Wright.

Since a 10-goal league campaign in 2021/22, he hasn’t kicked on or shown that level again, but we know he has it in his locker.

With that talent, we’d back Glasner to get the absolute best out of him and see him return to a top-level player.

This season, Arteta has treated him as an afterthought with just three starts and 325 minutes played – assisting one goal.

One thing which could hold significance is that he seems to thrive when trusted and played regularly, something he’d definitely get at Palace should be signed.
