'I can't see that happening': Paul Merson shares who he thinks will win between Everton and Nottingham Forest

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has now provided his prediction for the upcoming game between Everton and Nottingham Forest on the weekend.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s men are going into the game at Goodison Park sitting just one point clear of the drop zone.

Their draw at the City Ground last time out against Wolves was enough for Forest to pull open a one-point cushion on Luton Town in 18 spot.

But with five games remaining in the season, Forest are by no means in the clear just yet with a huge game coming up on Sunday.

Facing a fellow struggler in Sean Dyche’s Toffees, Forest will have the opportunity to leapfrog Everton in the table with three points.

And Merson has now issued his prediction for the game on Merseyside which will be dubbed by many as a relegation six-pointer.

Three points for Forest on Sunday could potentially pull them four points clear of Luton in the relegation zone and it could even pull Everton into the bottom three depending on Luton’s result.

What Paul Merson predicted in Forest’s huge trip to face Everton

It has certainly been a turbulent campaign for Forest with the points deduction pulling them right back into the relegation mix.

But there have certainly been some positives to take from the campaign with some standout performers.

Chris Wood has perhaps been the surprise package for many with the New Zealand striker currently in a rich vein of form having netted 12 goals this season.

And then there has, of course, been Morgan Gibbs-White who has been a real shining light in Forest’s season.

But the midfielder is now being linked with a potential move away from the City Ground this summer with Tottenham Hotspur said to be interested.

And it seems Merson feels Forest are showing the form that suggests to him they are capable of coming away from Goodison Park with all three points on the weekend.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Merson admitted he can see Nuno’s men compiling the misery on Everton after their heavy defeat on Monday night.

‘The result of this game depends on what Luton do against Brentford. Everton got absolutely destroyed by Chelsea the other day and they recently fell over the line against Burnley due to a goalkeeping error, so I think Forest will win this one,’ Merson said.

‘Everton are struggling badly and need to get more points on the board to secure their Premier League status. I can’t see that happening this week, though.’

What Ryan Yates has said about the game on Saturday

The pressure really is on ahead of Sunday with three points for either side on the weekend potentially playing a huge role in their Premier League survival.

Everton were put to the sword on Monday night with Chelsea putting six past them in the capital.

But the players will know just how important three points could be on the weekend and Ryan Yates is clearly expecting a better version of the Toffees.

“They had a difficult night, the other night, but we know that’s not their level. We will be expecting a big reaction from them, we will be expecting the best version of Everton,” Yates told Sky Sports.

“That’s what we’re fully expecting and we need to be at our top level if we are to get something from the game.”
