'Exactly the same': Pundit predicts 'further trouble' for Sheffield Wednesday in Blackburn Rovers clash

Sheffield Wednesday could face ‘further trouble’ after a number of big fixtures this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday are preparing to travel to Ewood Park on Sunday, where they will look to pick up only their second win in eight games.

The Owls are still only one point from safety and have been saved in recent weeks, with many of the teams above them also struggling to pick up results.

Blackburn head into the tie off the back of a surprise win against Leeds United though, which now leaves them five points above the relegation zone and very unlikely to go down.

This could work in Wednesday’s favour and they will have to hope it does, with Huddersfield and Birmingham City both set for winnable games against Swansea City and Rotherham United respectively.

Wins for both their rivals could potentially leave Danny Rohl‘s side three points from safety if they fail to beat Rovers.

Birmingham haven’t won away from home in their last seven outings though, so the Owls will be hoping their local rivals The Millers can give them a helping hand.

Sheffield Wednesday will feel ‘doomed’

However, former striker Sam Parkin has tipped more ‘trouble’ for Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Speaking on The Championship Check-in podcast, Parkin said: “I’m going to go for big wins for Huddersfield and Birmingham this weekend and Sheffield Wednesday to be in further trouble. I’m going for Blackburn, after that win, to do exactly the same again.

“I’m going for 1-0 home victory, maybe late as well. Sheffield Wednesday with a ‘we’re doomed’ sentiment… and they won’t be, but that’s going to be the feeling.”

The downside of a Sunday kick-off

While Blackburn are under a lot less pressure now after that Leeds win, they will be brimming with confidence and it would be very surprising to see them slip up on home soil.

What makes it significantly harder for Wednesday is that they play on Sunday, while Birmingham and Huddersfield both take to the pitch for their usual 3pm kick off tomorrow.

This will put a lot more pressure on Rohl’s side, who will already know what a win or defeat will mean for them before they have even kicked a ball.

And while it won’t mean relegation if they don’t win, the longer Wednesday leave it, the harder it is going to get. Fans certainly won’t want it to go down to the last day, especially when it isn’t in their hands.
