Report: Everton expected to demand over £50m for their 22-year-old player this summer

Everton are expected to demand over £50million for one of their key players during the summer transfer window.

Transfers are probably the last thing on Sean Dyche’s mind as he prepares his side for a massive clash against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

A win for the Toffees will go a long way in securing their Premier League status for the 2024/25 season with three points.

Eventually, attention will have to turn to dealings in the summer. Unfortunately, given the current uncertainty, outgoings will likely grab the headlines.

And there’s one player who’s consistently been linked with a Goodison Park exit

Amadou Onana hit the ground running following his move from Lille in 2022. The Belgian quickly endeared himself to the Goodison Park faithful with some full-blooded performances.

However, this season, things haven’t entirely gone to plan. Everton’s dire form hasn’t helped, but the 22-year-old hasn’t been near his best.

During Monday’s loss to Chelsea, Onana and James Garner were hooked off at halftime. His display even led Jamie Carragher to question what the hype surrounding Onana was all about.

Nevertheless, Everton are reportedly looking for a hefty fee for the midfielder. The Athletic report on Friday that Newcastle United admire the midfielder. However, the Toffees are set to demand in excess of £50million.

Should Everton sell Amadou Onana?

Considering the current financial state of the club, Onana leaving cannot be ruled out. Forbes have suggested he could follow Anthony Gordon to St James’ Park.

Losing a player of the 22-year-old’s potential would come as a blow, but there is an understanding that the need to raise funds could lead to exits. £50million feels like a fair price.

Onana is still largely inconsistent and must prove himself in England’s top division. Signing for Belgian for that sort of money would be a risk for any club.
