Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are monitoring ‘special’ player who Jamie Carragher loves

With just a month of the season left, Liverpool are beginning to look ahead to the summer transfer window.

Having crashed out of the Europa League last night, there’s now less on the Reds’ plate between now and the end of the campaign.

Just six games now remain before Liverpool wave goodbye to Jurgen Klopp. From there, the serious business of shaping a new team under a new manager must begin immediately.

Obviously, the Reds need to know who is coming in to take over from Klopp first. But as journalist David Ornstein reported today, things appear to be moving along in that regard.

Regardless of who it is, there need to be a few changes to the first-team squad. And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are keeping a close eye on one target in particular.

Liverpool monitoring Jamal Musiala situation

It seems quite incredible to think that there’s a possibility of Jamal Musiala leaving Bayern Munich. The 21-year-old is arguably their best player.

Harry Kane might have something to say about that, as might another reported Liverpool target – Leroy Sane. But there’s little doubt that Musiala is incredibly important to Bayern.

Nevertheless, there have been claims that Liverpool are one of the sides monitoring Musiala’s situation. With a contract up in 2026, there’s work for Bayern to do to keep him. Speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday though, Romano insisted that the German giants intend to snuff out interest from the likes of Liverpool.

“The reality is that all the top clubs in the world, even from Spain, not just England love Jamal Musial but this is normal,” he says. “Many top clubs are appreciating, following, monitoring one of the best players in the world. Manchester City are big fans of the player but it’s the same for Chelsea, it’s the same for clubs in Spain, same for people like Liverpool. There are many top clubs following the situation. He’s a special player and he’s out of contract in 2026, so kind of a special situation for a player of this level.

“But Bayern insist on no intention to lose the player in the summer. Their contract proposal will be a special proposal, a big contract in terms of salary.

“They are preparing this important contract and they want him to sign a new deal. The appreciation of top clubs is there, it’s normal but it depends on Bayern and their intention is to fight to keep him at the club with a new contract.”

Will Liverpool sign Jamal Musiala

Again, we’d be incredibly surprised if anyone signed Musiala over the next 12 months. Bayern would be fools to let such a player leave and the Bundesliga side aren’t in the business of being foolish.

For just a glimpse into how highly the Germany international is rated, you only have to look at Jamie Carragher’s comments on Musiala’s display against Arsenal this week.

“Musiala, for me, this guy is sensational,” said Carragher. “I think he is going to be a superstar.”

Carragher is wrong. Musiala already is a superstar. And Liverpool know it by the sounds of things.

As Romano says though, it’s normal that top clubs would be monitoring a player like that’s situation so near to his contract ending. We’d be stunned if this ends in anything other than a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
