Play-off heartbreak for March Town and league defeat for Parson Drove

March’s impressive United Counties Premier South campaign came to a halt this afternoon when they were beaten 4-0 at Racing Club Warwick in the promotion play-off semi-final.

Warwick have only lost once all season on their artificial pitch and it is they who go through to the final to play Aylestone Park, who beat St Neots Town on penalties in the other semi-final after a 2-2 draw.

Warwick took the lead against March after just eight minutes through Simeon Cobourne, and six minutes later Josh Willis made it two. That’s the way it stayed to half time.

On the hour it was all over when Callum Carsley made it 3-0 to the home side. Towards the end of the game, March’s Jay Whyatt was red carded before Luke Shearer added a fourth.

In the Eastern Counties League First Division North, Parson Drove went down 2-1 at Harwich and Parkeston.

Harwich took an early lead through Dan Keeble and doubled the score through Luke Mayhew after 15 minutes to lead 2-0 at the break.

Drove forced a couple of good saves from the home keeper in the first half and eventually got a goal back in the 65th minute.

Wisbech Town are in Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup Final action on Tuesday evening when they play Northern Premier League Midlands strugglers Cambridge City at Ely City.

Drove end a pleasing season away from home at third-from-bottom Leiston U23s next Saturday.

March have a long wait until their next game, which is the Hinchingbrooke Cup final against Blackstones at Yaxley on Wednesday, May 8.
