'I would like...': Emi Martinez's Dad shares worrying future update on Aston Villa hero

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez is quite the hero at the club right now after his heroics in Europe helped Villa through in midweek.

Martinez once again came up trumps in a penalty shootout as he repeated his heroics from the World Cup to help Villa into the semi-finals.

For Martinez, who has become something of a cult figure at the club since signing, his rise is quite the two fingers up at former club Arsenal, who never quite put faith in him.

However, there is always a danger with a player like Martinez that other clubs come knocking on the door.

And fuelling those potential flames a tiny bit more, his father, Alberto Martinez, has told TNT Sports he would like his son to move to a warmer climate.

Emi Martinez’s Father fancies a move elsewhere

Speaking to TNT Sports about the future of the goalkeeper, Alberto Martinez first discussed his son’s desire to play in the Olympics.

But then getting onto the future of Martinez himself, he suggested a move to somewhere slightly more temperate than the Midlands would suit him.

“Because I love him, I would like him to go to a city with summer. At Aston Villa he is always in winter, and when he has holidays in May he comes to Mar del Plata. Clubs have to go wherever they want. They’re not going to give it away and it’s all up to the family,” he said.

Aston Villa fans will want to here less of this

There’s obviously nothing from Martinez in terms of wanting a move but these sort of comments never help situations ahead of a transfer window.

Right now, Martinez is settled at Villa Park and playing well under Unai Emery.

But we all know that big clubs can come sniffing at the drop of a hat and Martinez’s Dad making comments like these won’t sit well with Villa fans.

Of course, there’ll be an element of tongue in cheek about them as well. It’s not like his Father is directly pushing for a move.

But as the summer window draws close to opening, Villa fans will have a nervousness about them.
