‘Absolute disgrace’: Ben Foster thinks Erik ten Hag should make an example of £70m Man United player now

Ben Foster has slammed one Manchester United player following Saturday’s draw at Bournemouth.

Manchester United were fortunate to leave the Vitality Stadium with a point following yet another underwhelming display.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up on the day as the United skipper netted a brace, with his second effort coming from the penalty spot.

But the Portuguese star was one of very few United players who could hold their head high following the result.

Erik ten Hag’s side put in a lacklustre display on the road and their defensive frailties were on show once again.

Alejandro Garnacho gave the ball away for Dominic Solanke’s opener as the Cherries star raced through on goal following a slip from Willy Kambwala.

It was Bournemouth’s second of the game which will frustrate fans though. Justin Kluivert was allowed far too much time to get his shot away from the left-hand side.

Kambwala attempted to close down Kluivert while Casemiro also came close to blocking the shot after strolling back to help out.

And Ben Foster has labelled Casemiro’s efforts to close down the ball as an ‘absolute disgrace’.

Foster slams Casemiro after United draw at Bournemouth

Speaking on The Fozcast, the former United goalkeeper claimed Ten Hag should make an example of Casemiro this week.

“The second goal, Casemiro he’s a holding midfielder,” Foster said. “He should be that engine, that rat in the midfield, the disruptor – somebody that breaks up all the attacks, gets in people’s faces.

“The second goal, for me, is an absolute disgrace. It’s an absolute disgrace. He’s allowed to wander into that space and get his shot off.

“Casemiro almost notices at the last second, meanders in, hangs a leg in there and I’m thinking, do you know what? If I was a manager of a team and my holding midfielder did that, that action there and then, I’d say that’ll do. You, come off.

“And I’d make a point of showing this in the week as well. Next week, we’d have a meeting on Monday and I’d show this to everyone and say ‘You see that, that’s an absolute disgrace’.

“The reason why he was brought off was because you break a neck, you bust a gut, you get in front of that player, you shut it down and you block it. What you’ve done there is you’ve just allowed him to walk in, get his shot off and score a goal. Simple as that.”

Ten Hag needs to drop Casemiro

Casemiro hasn’t exactly been at his best this season and his work off the ball has been well below the expected standards.

The midfielder was a revelation in his first few months at Old Trafford after joining from Real Madrid for £70 million back in the summer of 2022.

But it does look as if Casemiro simply doesn’t have the required engine to sit in front of United’s back four now.

The 32-year-old is past his best and given United’s issues at centre-back, he isn’t offering enough protection at the base of midfield.
