'Gobs off': Gabriel Magalhaes absolutely furious with £60m Arsenal man despite beating Wolves - journalist

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes was left seriously frustrated with one of his teammates in yesterday’s win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Mikel Arteta’s side didn’t necessarily play to their full potential, but did eventually get the job done against a weakened Gary O’Neil side.

Wolves were missing a host of players including Arsenal linked Pedro Neto, which was perhaps fortuitous for the away team.

Arteta’s players showed a bit of the mental and physical fatigue you’d expect after such a tough seven days or so.

But thanks to a very opportunistic strike by Leandro Trossard, Arsenal then were able to take control and see out the game quite comfortably.

That being said, Arsenal couldn’t afford to drop their standards defensively in order to keep a sixth away clean sheet in a row.

And to that point, one moment late on in the 79th minute did really anger Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes, who had the aura of a leader

William Saliba is often considered the jewel of Arsenal’s imperious partnership, but it was Gabriel calling the shots on this occasion.

Gabriel Magalhaes seriously frustrated with Arsenal teammate Kai Havertz during Wolves win

Arsenal were 1-0 up with around 10 minutes to go, and Gabriel certainly wasn’t happy with either Gabriel Martinelli or Kai Havertz’s efforts to stop a marauding run by Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The Wolves full-back ran past more than one Arsenal player, only to eventually be stopped by Gabriel who ran the ball out for a goal kick.

But the Brazilian then let his feelings be known towards Havertz in particular, shouting loudly at the £60m-midfielder.

Havertz was by no means lazy in his performance overall, he often helped out well defensively, but was caught lacking on this occasion.

Journalist Jonathan Jurejko commented on the moment on BBC Sports’ coverage saying: “Gabriel gobs off at one of his team-mates. The one who let Rayan Ait-Nouri run at him.

“Standards are high when you’re going for the Premier League title.”

Of course, that last statement says it all, Gabriel simply didn’t want his Arsenal teammates’ high standards to drop for one moment.

And with a chance to build more ‘scoreboard pressure’ on Tuesday against Chelsea at the Emirates, before Manchester City play again, that immaculate approach will be needed.

All that being said, Arsenal may have just been handed some good news in pursuit of an ‘extraordinary’ striker.
