Wisbech Town had a disappointing return to life back in Division One of the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Premier League when they were beaten at home to Burwell & Exning.
After asking their visitors to bat on a cold and dreary day, relegated Wisbech went on to lose by 30 runs.
Burwell posted 196-8 from their 50 overs, with Ryan Clark pick of the Wisbech bowlers, taking 3-42 from eight overs. George Gowler took 2-28 from 10 and there were also wickets for Kieran Haynes, Josh Porter and Gary Freear.
In reply, Wisbech made the worst possible start when captain James Williams was clean bowled for a golden duck. It was 5-2 when fellow opener Danny Haynes was out for just three, but then wicket keeper Josh Bowers (22) and Ryan Clark (27) added 54 to the scorecard before both were dismissed in quick succession, leaving it 59-4.
Jamie Seabrook (37) and Jonny Garner (14) put on 32 for the next wicket but the only real resistance after that came from Josh Porter, who hit 20 from 48 balls. Wisbech ended up 166 all out from 47.2 overs.
Next week they travel to play Blunham, whose match on Saturday was cancelled.
