'It didn't work': Pundit says Sheffield Wednesday man will be 'disappointed' after key moment v Blackburn

David Stockdale says one Sheffield Wednesday player will be disappointed he didn’t take his chance against Blackburn Rovers.

Sheffield Wednesday headed to Ewood Park for what was a huge game near the foot of the Championship table on Sunday.

The Owls needed a win to bring themselves out of the relegation zone and they got just that, eventually winning 3-1 owing to goals from Josh Windass, Marvin Johnson, and an own goal from Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears.

Danny Rohl now finds his side in 21st place of the Championship table; a point above Birmingham City in 22nd and three ahead of Huddersfield Town in 23rd.

There’s only two games eft of the season now.

Sheffield Wednesday play their final home game of the season next weekend, welcoming West Brom to Hillsborough for what will be another crucial game.

Then the Owls head to Sunderland for their final game of the season.

There could be big celebrations for Sheffield Wednesday when they travel to Wearside at the start of next month.

And after the win at Blackburn, the packed out away end at Ewood Park erupted in noise.

Sheffield Wednesday put in a commanding display against Blackburn.

They took their chances and defended well despite losing both Michael Ihiekwe and Bambo Diaby to injury.

Though Stockdale believes Liam Palmer will be disappointed that he didn’t take his chance to score in the first half.

The score was 1-1 and the ball fell to Palmer just inside the Blackburn box, with time and space to take a shot at goal, but it went over the bar.

In the end, the miss didn’t matter, but Stockdale believes Palmer will be disappointed he didn’t get on the scoresheet for a second week running.

He said on Sky Sports:

“He’ll be disappointed, because I’ve seen him do it before. And you can tell, look at his technique, he knows what he’s doing. He’s done it before, it’s just the last bit, keeping it down, it didn’t work. But I’ve seen him do that before and you can see by his technique… I think he’ll be disappointed, but it’s not an easy chance.”

Liam Palmer’s future

Palmer is one of the many out of contract in the summer, though he’s certainly putting a good casefoeward to earn a new deal.

He scored an important goal against Stoke City last weekend and could’ve had another huge one in the game against Blackburn too.

Though Palmer eventually played his part in another memorable win for the Owls who are finally out of the drop zone, but not out of the woods just yet.

If Palmer goes on to help keep Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship then it could prompt him to want to stay, and it could prompt the club to offer him a new deal to.

He’s become a very versatile player over the years and someone who always gives his everything for the club and the fans.

Up next for the Owls is a home game vs West Brom next weekend.
