‘Come on guys’: Lineker, Shearer & Richards react to Crystal Palace Twitter swipe at Nottingham Forest

Crystal Palace had a marvellous day on the pitch yesterday in the Premier League, allowing the club’s social media admin to have some fun on Twitter, seeing Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer react.

Oliver Glasner will be starting the week with a smile after his Crystal Palace side recorded an impressive 5-2 win over West Ham at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles soared to victory to record their first set of back-to-back wins in the Premier League this season, building on the statement 1-0 win against Liverpool at Anfield the week prior.

It was a five-star display from Glasner’s side, who blew the Hammers away in the first half, as Palace scored four goals before the interval for the first time in their history in the Premier League.

While all the attention was on the pitch, there were some matters off the field that gathered attention, as the Eagles’ media team took the opportunity to take a mild swipe at Nottingham Forest.

What the Crystal Palace media team said in reaction to Nottingham Forest defeat

Elsewhere in the Premier League on Sunday, Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 at Goodison Park against Everton, seeing them edge closer to the bottom three on a day that saw VAR slandered for its lack of intervention.

The Reds believed they should have been awarded three penalties, which saw their Twitter admin make a baffling statement, accusing Stuart Attwell of being a Luton Town fan.

It was a wild thing to see unfold after the fixture however, you may be wondering what this has to do with Crystal Palace.

Clearly on a high from the Eagles’ 5-2 victory, Palace’s media team tweeted a jibe towards Forest, saying:

“Five extremely good goals – two goals conceded – which we simply have to accept.

“CPFC will now enjoy their Sunday.”

Pundits react to Crystal Palace swipe at Nottingham Forest

While you have to sympathise with Forest, who are fighting for their lives near the bottom of the table, there is some fun to be had when it comes to football, particularly when you’re on the winning side.

Speaking on the matter on The Rest Is Football podcast, pundits Michah Richards, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer reacted to Palace’s tweet aimed at Forest.

Before hearing what Palace tweeted, Shearer said:

“In terms of having a bit of fun and trying to create something different, then yes, but not when it’s a serious matter like that.”

Lineker then read the Palace tweet and dubbed it “very good”, to which Shearer and Richards shared a laugh.

The former Manchester City defender found the fun side of the social media swipe however, was quick to share his sympathy for Forest.

“That is funny but come on guys, we have to look at it from Nottingham Forest’s side too.”

The tweet isn’t wrong, Palace surely did enjoy their Sunday after scoring five goals at Selhurst Park, in what was certainly a better weekend in South London than it was for Forest on Merseyside.
