Fabrizio Romano shares what Chelsea staff are now thinking about Nicolas Jackson after FA Cup semi-final

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking about Nicolas Jackson following Chelsea’s 1-0 loss against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals over the weekend.

Chelsea were beaten by a Bernardo Silva goal, ending their hopes of winning silverware this season.

Their elimination at the semi-final stage of the FA Cup also means that Mauricio Pochettino‘s men will have to finish in the top six if they want to qualify for the Europa League.

It could have been a completely different outcome if Jackson had his shooting boots on.

The striker had plenty of chances to score, disappointing Alan Shearer with the amount of opportunities he wasted.

How Chelsea feel about Nicolas Jackson after FA Cup semi-final

Ultimately, it was not Jackson’s best game in a Chelsea shirt.

Nevertheless, it does not look like the Blues have lost faith in the 22-year-old.

Speaking about Chelsea and Jackson after their defeat at Wembley, Romano wrote on Substack: “We need to understand that players are not robots, it’s been a difficult season for Chelsea but Jackson scored an important number of goals and club believes he has an important potential.

“They will give him time for sure, they are still very happy with a signing they completed for a normal fee.”

Should Chelsea give up on Nicolas Jackson?

Jackson certainly has to take some responsibility for Chelsea’s exit from the FA Cup on Saturday.

Of course, if VAR had awarded the Blues a penalty for a handball by Jack Grealish, we may not be speaking about Jackson’s performance. But they never got it and thus needed their centre-forward to be more clinical.

That being said, the Senegal international has not done terribly this season. Thirteen goals in 37 appearances is not the worst record.

Still 22 years of age, the potential is there. Chelsea should probably stick with Jackson a bit longer, though they may need to reduce his role next term. And if the club go on to sign a new centre-forward, you would expect that to happen.
