'Sorry': Craig Burley thinks Howard Webb has a big problem after Nottingham Forest situation

Craig Burley has slammed Nottingham Forest for their social media antics but does concede that Howard Webb now has a very big problem to solve.

The Reds were beaten 2-0 by Everton yesterday as the club’s Premier League status remained in the balance.

Goals from Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil compounded Forest to another defeat in the Premier League.

It wasn’t without controversy though – and Forest thought they should have had no fewer than three penalties.

Ashley Young was responsible for all threeForest appeals and two of the decisions were frankly laughable.

The handball just before half-time and the clear foul through the back of Callum Hudson-Odoi were about as nailed-on as you can hope to get.

Now, Burley has delivered his verdict on the social media post outed by Forest after the game – and he’s not a big fan of the approach.

Craig Burley delivers Nottingham Forest verdict

Well, it’s not hard to grasp why former Derby County midfielder Burley hasn’t exactly stuck up for Forest.

However, he has conceded that there is a big problem on the horizon for Webb after this Forest debacle.

Yesterday was nothing short of a joke. However, Burley doesn’t believe Forest’s approach was the best way yesterday and has hammered the club for their post.

He toldESPN: “This has crossed the line here, it’s pub talk, this is trolling on social media, sorry this is muppets on social media talk, this should not be coming from official club channels.

“This is the kind of thing that the ownership of this club do in their own country, in Greece, it’s all about corruption, it’s all about bias, it’s all about corruption, it’s all about the officials.

“I don’t deny, Howard Webb has a problem here. Mike Riley was jettisoned from the PGMOL because he was hopeless. Have things changed under Webb? Not really.

“I can understand the angst and frustration from a Nottingham Forest perspective. Particularly the third one, you can maybe debate the first two you can have a discussion.

“But, you can’t have clubs questioning the integrity, not the quality, but the integrity of match officials. This goes back to hiring Mark Clattenburg, that’s inflammatory.”

Forest approach is flawed but the message is clear

The message from Forest was a little bit off. Straight after the final whistle, it was hardly ideal but it’s clear that enough is enough.

Liverpool demanded a game was replayed against Tottenham back in November and they didn’t get this much stick from various pundits.

Now, Forest have endured the straw that breaks the camel’s back and they have snapped on social media.

Burley is perhaps right. This approach is common-place on the continent but these comments won’t wash with the Premier League.

A hefty fine is likely to be on the horizon for Forest and the hope will be that any punishment can be sorted pretty quickly.

The Reds have quite simply had enough. It’s laughable that Anthony Taylor didn’t give any on the pitch but for Stuart Attwell not to get involved on VAR is just ridiculous.

It’s not hard to understand where Forest are coming from but perhaps there was a better way that the club could have gone about things.
