Cllr Kim French, the town’s mayor, declared the fayre open at 10am on the main stage and more than 100 market stalls lined the Library and City Road car parks offering an array of goods and information.

There was also a colourful parade from the library to West End Park led by the Newmarket Samba band and featuring the event’s iconic dragon as well as community groups, school children and artists.

Fenland District Council said: “We would like to thank everyone involved in the festival and fayre now and in past years - your support is invaluable.”
