‘Quality’ Tottenham star set for summer transfer bid as Atletico Madrid and Juventus eye deal

Tottenham transfer links are set to ramp up ahead of the summer window, with Ange Postecoglou ready to make some key changes to his Spurs squad as Daniel Levy looks set his manager.

The summer transfer window is right around the corner and it represents an opportunity for clubs to work on their squads for the future. At Tottenham, the main focus remains climbing towards the top of the Premier League table.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou has been clear on the style of play he is trying to implement at the Tottenham Stadium in his first season at the club. With such a quick transformation, the Lilywhites have progressed from missing out on European football to being in the Champions League conversation.

Whether they reach that goal of a top-four finish or not remains to be seen. However, the plan for Ange Postecoglou over the summer will be to build on the foundations of a squad that can play his style of football.

That means some incomings, but there will also be some outgoings, as the squad transforms.

One of those stars with an uncertain future at Tottenham is playmaker Giovani Lo Celso. The 28-year-old has one year remaining on his contract at Spurs, having only shown glimpses of his ability since signing permanently.

Postecoglou has been complimentary of the Argentinian international this season, stating back in late December: “Gio [Giovani Lo Celso] was great. He’s been great the last two or three weeks.

“With the amount of injuries we’ve had and absences we’ve had, we’ve needed everyone in the group and everybody who has come in has stepped up. Gio was very good today, not just with his work rate but you could see his quality on the ball.”

Despite that quality, the manager has often picked James Maddison as his preferred choice in the attacking midfielder role. Lo Celso has started just four league games this season, with only just over 400 minutes of action so far.

With uncertainty over his future building, it appears as though some clubs are taking notice of the summer transfer window. According to a report from TuttoJuve, Atletico Madrid have joined Juventus in the race for the midfielder.

The Rojiblancos are reportedly readying an offer worth €20million [£17.2million] for the summer window. Lo Celso’s future is yet to be decided, meaning plenty of developments could occur in the weeks ahead.

Tottenham transfer priorities

Tottenham have several priorities to look over when it comes to their transfer business this summer. One of those will be moving players on who don’t have a future in the team, with a few squad options currently missing out on playing time.

Lo Celso could be one of those set for an exit, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is another senior star that is struggling for minutes. Should those moves be completed, with some other deals in the squad, it may pave the way for some incomings.

Several key areas could be addressed by Postecoglou when it comes to summer signings. One point of interest may be in the wide areas, depending on whether Timo Werner makes a permanent switch from RB Leipzig.

Another midfield option could be on the cards for Spurs, while depth at full-back and centre-forward are also possibilities. With that said, it looks set to be another busy window for the Lilywhites.
