An annexe for an acrobat? Local hosts sought to bring magic of circus to Newbury’s Watermill theatre

The Watermill is on the lookout for local hosts to accommodate an actor or creative team member in their spare room or annexe, to help bring its dazzling production of Barnum to life this summer.

The Watermill

The Bagnor theatre accommodates many of its freelance staff onsite but regularly works with local hosts who house members of staff at certain times of the year when onsite space is limited. With a large cast and creative team due to work on Barnum, they are now looking to expand the existing group of hosts.

The show will play from July 2 to September 8, but hosts will need to have full or partial availability between the penultimate week of May and early September and should live within driving distance (maximum 30 minutes’ drive time) of Bagnor. There will be a fee offered. Hosts will also be invited to an open dress rehearsal of the production.

With Barnum set across both the Watermill auditorium and gardens and featuring an ensemble cast of actor-musicians and circus performers, audiences will be immersed in the intoxicating world of the circus as it comes to Bagnor this summer.

Operations manager Charley Hart said: “Hosting one of our actors or creative team members reveals a unique, behind-the-scenes perspective on The Watermill and the performing arts industry. We are excited to hear from anyone who would like to help us bring the circus to town this summer by becoming a local host – we can’t wait to welcome leading artists from across the UK to Berkshire.”
