UEFA make announcement involving Stuart Attwell after Nottingham Forest incident vs Everton

An astonishing announcement has been made on Stuart Attwell after his disastrous performance from a Nottingham Forest perspective on Sunday.

Forest lost 2-0 to Everton at the weekend in a game that was marred by three horrendous VAR decisions made by Attwell.

Anthony Taylor didn’t award any of the decisions on the field and Attwell didn’t feel the need to send him to the screen.

Forest released a damning statement on Attwell after the game and the club were criticised by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards for their comments.

Now, Attwell is in the news once again and Forest fans would be forgiven for being absolutely staggered by this one.

UEFA make huge announcement on Stuart Attwell

Well, this is quite remarkable news to comprehend this morning from a Forest perspective.

Henry Winter has confirmed this morning that Attwell – along with David Coote – will be England’s VAR representatives at Euro 2024 this summer.

Okay, so everyone can have a bad game but to announce this just hours after his disastrous performance is a real kick in the teeth.

It’s basically implying that the powers that be don’t really care too much about the fans and clearly they believe these officials are doing a good job.

Attwell was nothing short of a disgrace on Sunday and the errors he made could be unforgivable if Forest end up going down.

Premier League referees need accountability

Refereeing is tough. Nobody is suggesting anything other than job being incredibly difficult and getting more tricky all of the time.

However, at the top level they are paid the top money and there seems to be little accountability.

Forest fans have a right to be livid over this one and the timing of the news from UEFA is a real kick in the teeth.

Nobody is suggesting that referees should be hung, drawn or quartered when they make mistakes as after all, they make fewer than players.

However, why is the Premier League such a closed shop? It does appear that once you’re in, you never leave and that is wrong.

Attwell underperformed on Sunday and he let Forest down. As a result, why are the PGMOL so supportive that they will undoubtedly let him loose on another Premier League game this week?

Forget the Euros this summer, in the short term Attwell is lucky he’s not overseeing Football League games based on his errors involving Forest.
