'Wait and see': John Aldridge discusses what might happen when Forest next have a penalty appeal

Nottingham Forest have caused quite a stir over the past couple of days and now John Aldridge has predicted what might happen next.

The club are in the spotlight once again, this time after making a claim on social media about referee Stuart Attwell.

He was on VAR as Forest lost 2-0 at Everton on Sunday and failed to award the team three penalties at Goodison Park.

Forest issued a strongly worded post afterwards, questioning the integrity of Attwell given that he’s a Luton fan and it’s caused a bit of controversy.

Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have criticised Forest for the post – and now Aldridge has delivered a verdict on what might happen now.

John Aldridge predicts what might happen to Forest now

Well, it would appear as though a hefty fine is going to be on the cards for Forest and they’re wracking up a bit of a rap sheet.

The Reds have already been deducted four points this season for breaching financial regulations and it’s been a pretty drab campaign.

Now, Aldridge has been delivering his verdict on what Forest did at the weekend and he’s predicted what might happen next time there is a penalty appeal.

He told the Liverpool Echo: “Fair play Forest. I was fascinated by the timing of Forest’s tweet after their defeat to Everton on Sunday.

“The game had barely finished before they went on the offensive, suggesting the three penalty shouts they had turned down was because the VAR, Stuart Attwell, is a Luton fan.

“Whether they were penalties or not – and you can see a case for either for or against with each one – having three in the same frame like that is quite a lot.

“It will be interesting to see what decisions they get off referees now going forward. Might Forest now get the rub of the green for the next contentious penalty shout? We will have to wait and see.”

Aldridge makes valid point about Reds situation

Well, the concept that referees might now give Forest more decisions is a nice one but it looks unlikely to be true.

Forest appointed Mark Clattenburg in February and that has done little to improve the number of decisions that the team has been getting.

Now, with the club essentially pleading corruption against match officials, it’s hardly going to do anything to enhance their reputation with the referees.

Hopefully, Forest get a fair crack in their remaining fixtures and they can go down swinging if that is where the team are ultimately heading.

Aldridge’s concept is a nice one but in our view, this is unlikely to win Forest many friends between now and the end of the campaign.
