Plans to change former Ruse and Son butchers shop, in Hall Street, Long Melford, to dog grooming salon lodged with Babergh District Council

Plans to change a former butchers shop in a grade II listed building to a dog grooming salon have been lodged with a council.

The proposals, by Hannah Seels, concern what was the Ruse and Son butchers shop in Hall Street, Long Melford, near Sudbury.

The two-storey property has been vacant for several years; the application applies to the ground floor only.

Ruse and Son closed in 2020, having traded in the village for 160 years.

The shop floor will be redecorated although no existing structures will be removed – only new freestanding furniture will be fittted.

There will continue to be parking for staff and visitors on site.

The new shop would employ one individual on a full-time basis initially, with the hope to increase this to three in the space of 12 months.

A determination on the application is expected by June 17.
