'He has been brilliant': Ally McCoist amazed by 25-year-old Arsenal player's display vs Chelsea last night

Arsenal have sent a message to the other Premier League title chasers with a dominant 5-0 win over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners got off to the perfect start by breaking the deadlock through Leandro Trossard after just four minutes.

Admittedly, Arsenal didn’t exactly cruise to the break. The Blues slowly worked their way into the game and the half-time whistle was a welcome relief.

However, the Gunners went on to run riot against Chelsea in the second half, with Ben White and Kai Havertz both scoring unanswered braces.

While most of Arsenal’s players were thoroughly impressive on the night, Martin Odegaard was arguably the pick of the bunch with a real midfield masterclass.

The Gunners captain registered two assists, eight key passes, two tackles and one interception, as per Sofascore.

Odegaard also won eight ground duels, completed three dribbles, and delivered two accurate crosses and five accurate long balls.

What has Ally McCoist said about Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard?

TNT Sports pundit Ally McCoist praised the 25-year-old on several instances throughout the match, with his superb pass for Kai Havertz’s first of the night earning plaudits.

“What a goal it is,” said McCoist, as transcribed by BBC Sport.

“The ball from Odegaard is out of this world but what Havertz does is he puts his body between the defender and the ball and lifts it over the goalkeeper.”

Later on, McCoist said: “He has been brilliant tonight. Just his feet, his balance is wonderful to see.”

Havertz went on to score a brace against his former club, with Ben White also bagging two goals to cap off an amazing night for Arsenal.

What a performance and what a result for the Gunners, who’ll certainly be feeling a bit more positive about their title chances now.

And what a signing Odegaard has been. For just £30million, Arsenal got themselves an outstanding talent who has become one of the Premier League’s best players.
