Club CEO admits Ange Postecoglou signing did not want to leave and join Tottenham this season

A Tottenham Hotspur signing has now been said to have been keen not to join the Lilywhites earlier this season.

Since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou in the summer, Tottenham have seen a host of new faces come through the doors.

Daniel Levy has provided the Australian with plenty of backing in his first two transfer windows at the club and the upcoming summer is expected to see more.

And the large majority of those signings are ones which Tottenham can look back on positively with the 2023/24 campaign coming to a close.

However, there may still be some question marks hanging over a small number of the players brought in this season.

Timo Werner is a player whose future hangs in the balance with Tottenham now said to be looking at alternative ways to keep him beyond triggering his option.

It is claimed Werner is happy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it now appears there is one player who did not want to leave his formrer club.

Tottenham signing did not want to leave his former club and sign for Spurs

Signings like Micky van de Ven and Brennan Johnson have proved really impressive signings with both having a big impact on the starting XI.

The only real transfer failure to date has been the young Argentine striker Alejo Veliz who signed in the summer.

Veliz has already been loaned out to Sevilla where he is struggling to find a run of games with the La Liga side.

And he has even been slammed as an ‘absolute failure’ by those in Spain with his loan now nearing an end.

But one player who remains at Tottenham and finds himself struggling to pick up any real minutes in Postecoglou’s XI is Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian made the move to north London in the January transfer window after snubbing potential moves to Bayern Munich and Napoli.

But Genoa’s CEO Andres Blazquez has now told journalist Ben Jacobs that the defender was not keen to leave Genoa over the winter window.

“The idea was not to sell. He didn’t want to leave in January because he was so committed to the team. He wanted to make sure Genoa meet their goals for the year,” he said.

“And he said, ‘ok let me stay until the end of January or something.’ But it was not possible there was too much pressure from Bayern Munich, from Tottenham and from other teams too.”

Radu Dragusin has now been slammed for choosing to join Tottenham

Since landing at Hotspur Way, Dragusin has now been able to rack up 229 minutes of action in a Spurs shirt.

For a player who had offers from the likes of Bayern Munich, it is a deal which is yet to really pay off for the 22-year-old.

However, he is a long-term option for Tottenham who will likely receive a lot more minutes in the coming months when Spurs are expected to be playing European football next term.

And Romanian pundit Marcel Raducanu has slammed the defender for choosing Tottenham over the likes of Bayern Munich or even staying put in Italy.

“He should have stayed at Genoa, it would have been better for him to play as a starter until the end of the season. Then offers came by themselves, I say that he was a little hasty. Let’s be serious! There was no offer. Bayern, if they want a player, take him immediately. We don’t discuss. These were rumours,” he said.

“I know for sure that he had no offer from Bayern. Or, if he had, although I don’t think so, it means he’s either arrogant or naive. How to refuse Bayern? There’s no way, it’s impossible, there’s no way you can do this.”
