'It's clear': Journalist praises Danny Rohl for one thing he has 'sacrificed' at Sheffield Wednesday

Danny Rohl has been showered in praise for sacrificing some of his ‘footballing principles’ at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday looked completely lost and had no identity when Danny Rohl was appointed their new manager in October.

But since then things have dramatically improved, with the team picking up 13 wins and sitting one point above the relegation zone.

The German coach has taken a tactical approach to the Owls’ campaign and had adopted a much more attractive way of playing football.

It was really working and looked likely to earn them a place in the Championship next season, until they found themselves in some poor form, failing to win in four games and getting battered 6-0 by Ipswich Town.

Danny Rohl has made some big sacrifices that have paid off

Rohl appears to have made some changes in recent weeks though and has ‘sacrificed some of his footballing principles’, and as a result, the team have gone four unbeaten and have dragged themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time since the opening day.

Journalist Dom Howson has heaped praise on the 34-year-old for making such change to his approach for the good of the team.

He wrote on X: “There are many things to admire about #SWFC boss Danny Röhl and his tactical approach. It’s clear DR has sacrificed some of his footballing principles in recent weeks. Wednesday have not played out as much from the back. They have gone more direct and are now four unbeaten.”

The German’s adaptability proves his quality

The end of a campaign always sees teams get a bit scrappy, as nerves and pressure begins to build up.

That has been very visible in Sheffield Wednesday‘s games, but Danny Rohl has now made the relevant changes for his players to adapt to that and allow it to work in their favour.

The Owls even managed to score twice from set-pieces against Norwich – something that they had really struggled with all season.

The changes really show Rohl’s quality as he is so willing to adapt to what is around him, while the players believe in him so much that they are happy to do whatever he says and make it work.

It will be interesting to see if they can keep it up for the final two matches now, as the players could well have a completely different mindset now that they are looking down in the league table rather than up for the first time since August.
