'Spot on': Sheffield Wednesday ace explains why Danny Rohl is the 'best coach' he's ever worked with

Josh Windass has explained what makes Danny Rohl the ‘best coach’ he has ever worked with.

Danny Rohl has been at Sheffield Wednesday for six months now and has completely transformed a squad that had already accepted relegation.

The Owls had taken only two points from ten games, but have since picked up 12 wins in 33 matches and have looked a completely different team to the one that struggled under Xisco Munoz.

A lack of quality and consistency has still left Wednesday fighting for their lives at the bottom of the Championship though, with their future in the second tier potentially being decided on the final day of the campaign.

The Owls’ position in the league table hasn’t deterred heavy praise for Rohl though, with players often eager to hail the quality of the 34-year-old in his first job in management.

Josh Windass explains why he loves Danny Rohl

Working with clubs such as Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig make his quality less surprising, but given it is his first taste of being a head coach, being labelled the ‘best coach’ Josh Windass has ever worked with is a huge compliment.

Barry Bannan has said the same thing of Rohl before too, so his impact at Hillsborough certainly isn’t going unnoticed.

Speaking toSky Sports, Windass said: “It’s been a tough season for everyone, but since Danny’s come in, he’s changed the way play and he’s changed the way we all think. He’s probably the best coach I’ve ever worked with. I just hope we can finish it off with survival.”

When asked what makes Rohl the best, he added: “His detail, and his understanding. Some players may understand things quicker than others and I don’t think he gets frustrated by that, he takes time with each individual, making sure that everyone fully knows what he wants. Obviously sometimes it doesn’t work out like that when we go into games and things happen… but usually we go into matches and the game plan he gives us is spot on.

“Since he’s come in I think we’re a mid-table team, which with the group we’ve got is unbelievable. Hopefully we can stay up and Danny can get what we wants and we can move forward.”

What is the big deal with Rohl?

Sheffield Wednesday have come under some stick this term for their lack of consistency and failure to put chances away, leaving them in the position that they are in now.

But the Owls still have a squad that is largely made up of League One players, while Danny Rohl came into the club with them already sat seven points adrift.

Some football fans may wonder what all the fuss is about for a manager that could well take them down, but if it wasn’t for the German, Wednesday wouldn’t have even had a chance at staying up.

You don’t even need to take the supporters word for it though, because it’s clear how much the players love and appreciate the 34-year-old.

Barry Bannan is only eight months younger than Rohl and has been playing senior football for 16 years, yet still believes his current boss is the best.

Rohl is going to go very far in football and things could change drastically at Wednesday if they fail to keep him this summer.
