'From what I'm hearing': Transfer expert now shares encouraging update about £35m Man City star

Good news could be on the horizon at Manchester City, with one of Pep Guardiola’s most key players not far off signing a new contract at the club.

City fans are hoping that several players in the first-team will be agreeing new deals at the Etihad Stadium.

There has been talk of Kevin De Bruyne perhaps extending, given his deal expires in the summer of 2025. It was also reported recently that City are keen to open talks with Rodri over a new deal and to bring him more in line with the top earners at the club.

Someone else who has been mentioned for a possible new contract is Ederson.

The Brazilian stopper, who signed for the club back in 2017, is one of the most important players in the team, given his amazing ball-playing ability and the way he can build attacks from the back.

He’s been integral to City’s style of play since he stepped foot through the door – and Manchester City News can now bring word on his contract situation courtesy of transfer expert Graeme Bailey…

It was suggested last month that City were looking to get Ederson – who cost £35 million from Benfica – tied down to a better contract at the Etihad Stadium.

At the moment, he has a deal until the summer of 2026, and he is thought to take home around £120,000 per week. It has been reported City would seek to pay him around £200,000 per week.

Ederson is undoubtedly one of the most important players in the team, and news of an extension would likely go down very well.

Manchester City News caught up with Graeme Bailey, who believes a contract renewal is not far away now. He said: “Ederson isn’t going anywhere any time soon. Talks are ongoing with Ederson. I don’t think it’ll be long before he commits even longer, from what I’m hearing.”

Ederson last signed a new contract at City back in 2021.

Ederson deserves improved contract

It sounds as though news of Ederson extending his contract at Manchester City isn’t too far off now – and it would be no less than he deserves.

While he has probably not quite hit the same heights as he did last season, Ederson remains a dependable goalkeeper, and someone Pep believes is integral.

We saw recently how the manager threw him back into the starting XI against Luton Town and then days later, he got the nod against Real Madrid. Stefan Ortega Moreno did very well in his absence, but the Brazilian is the clear number one in the Spaniard’s eyes.

He has been a fantastic signing, and it would be quite right for him to move closer to the top earners at the club.
