‘I hope’… Oliver Glasner has now set his Crystal Palace players a new challenge after Newcastle win

Crystal Palace recorded a third Premier League win on the bounce when they beat Newcastle United at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.

The Eagles were at their very best once again, with Toon boss Eddie Howe even giving some praise to Palace’s style of play).

Jean-Philippe Mateta gave Crystal Palace the lead, combining with Jordan Ayew in the second half to cap off an impressive passing move.

The in-form striker scored again in the final few minutes to seal Palace’s 2-0 victory over Newcastle, bagging his 11th goal of the campaign and his fourth in two games.

Oliver Glasner has now officially guided the team to Premier League survival for another campaign, with attention turning towards a first full season under the Crystal Palace boss.

Oliver Glasner sets new Crystal Palace goal

With four games left this season and survival already confirmed, there may be fears over complacency for many teams in mid-table.

However, with three wins on the bounce and momentum behind his team, Glasner has called on the Palace players to keep on racking up wins.

“We now go for four in a row,” the manager proclaimed in his post-match press conference. “[It was a] great performance and all the credit to the players today.

“The energy, the intensity, the offensive way of playing always trying to score goals and yes it’s a good feeling to have completed mission number one: staying in the Premier League.

“We hope the players get addicted to winning games, to this emotion, this feeling of winning.”

Next up, Crystal Palace make the short trip across London to face Fulham, with a chance to move level on points with the Cottagers.

A clash with Manchester United at Selhurst Park awaits before meetings with Wolves and Aston Villa see out the campaign.

Crystal Palace winning streak

The impressive run of form Crystal Palace have built has put some shine on the end of their season, with fans able to enjoy the moment.

It’s the first time the Eagles have managed to win three on the bounce in the Premier League since 2022/23, which was in a run that included victories against Leicester City, Leeds United and Southampton.

All three of those teams ended up relegated to the Championship and when compared to wins over Liverpool, West Ham and Newcastle, there’s a different feeling about the current momentum.

If Glasner can extend that run to four successive triumphs, then that will be the first time Palace have managed that in the league since 2020, when they beat Newcastle, Brighton, Watford and Bournemouth.
