Crystal Palace vs Newcastle injury news with 18 potential casualties ahead of Premier League clash

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner faces a selection dilemma for the Premier League visit of Newcastle United as his side continues to contend with a mounting injury list.

A problem his Toon counterpart Eddie Howe will know all too well with the Magpies facing a seemingly endless list of injury concerns themselves ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park.

Oliver Glasner will be hoping to build on Crystal Palace’s 5-2 drubbing of West Ham where the impact of injuries this season were clear to see.

The recent returns of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise have played a big hand in Crystal Palace’s turn of form helping to register a 1-0 win over Liverpool and proving pivotal to the Eagles’ five-star showing against the Hammers.

Palace appear to have done enough work to keep themselves in the Premier League, with an 11-point gap built on the bottom three and only four games remaining for the relegation candidates.

However, with some impressive displays, Glasner will be hopeful of finishing the season on a high note while getting supporters excited for the first full season under his stewardship.

Crystal Palace injury concerns have persisted throughout the season, though, reducing the options available in the squad for the final few weeks.

While some key stars will miss the clash with Newcastle at Selhurst Park, the visitors themselves are also suffering with something of an injury crisis.

Crystal Palace injury latest

A total of seven Crystal Palace stars may miss out on the match due to a mixture of injury issues.

Sam Johnstone, Cheick Doucoure and Matheus Franca are all set to be sidelined the rest of the season due to fitness concerns.

Jefferson Lerma is out with a hamstring issue, while Marc Guehi is nearing a return from a problematic knee injury.

Rob Holding is ruled out after Glasner admitted that he brought the defender back into the squad from his previous ankle issue too quickly, while Adam Wharton is expected to feature despite a slight doubt from a clash of knees against West Ham.

Newcastle United injury news

As many as 11 Newcastle players could be missing from Eddie Howe’s squad to take on Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.

The Magpies have been picked apart by fitness and injury concerns throughout the season, with an increased workload due to their involvement in the Champions League in the early knockings of the campaign.

Howe has still managed to guide his side into sixth in the division, with an eye towards some form of European competition for the following season.

Ten players are set to miss out on their trip to London, with Callum Wilson another doubt after making a return to training this week.

Oliver Glasner’s plan for Crystal Palace next season

“For me, it’s not important if we are 5-1 up, or 4-1 down against Man City. It’s what we are doing on the pitch,” said Glasner when discussing his philosophy and game plan in the press conference before the Newcastle game.

It underlines that for Crystal Palace, the clash with the Magpies means more than just securing their Premier League status.

The plan that follows after is the way in which the team play and prepare for the following season, with hopes of pushing towards a European finish if possible.

With Howe’s side having ambitions of playing in continental competitions next campaign, it could be a good marker for where this Palace side is looking to progress.
