'I'm a real, real fan': EFL pundit names Leicester City's signing of the season

An EFL pundit has named who he thinks Leicester City’s signing of the season has been.

Enzo Maresca joined the East Midlanders last summer, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The Italian head coach was tasked with building a team capable of bouncing back to the top-flight and he’s now on the verge of doing just that.

Maresca made nine additions in his first transfer window and an EFL pundit has just named who he thinks has been the best of the lot.

Leicester spent £37m on nine arrivals last summer, three of those being loan deals. Here is their business in full, as per Transfermarkt.

Ryan Dilks, speaking on the Second Tier podcast, named Abdul Fatawu as The Foxes’ signing of the season.

“I’m a real, real fan of Fatawu’s,” Dilks said.

“I think he’s been Leicester’s best signing of the season.

“And I say that considering they spent a lot of money on the likes of Winks, Coady, Cannon, Mavididi.

“They only got Fatawu on loan and I know there will be fees and wages that come with that but he arrived with very little fanfare.

“And he’s arguably had the best impact out of all the players I mentioned there.”

Mads Hermansen has a case

It’s hard to argue with Dilks, particularly after Fatawu’s sensational hat-trick against Southampton on Tuesday evening.

But, the signing of Mads Hermansen certainly runs him close and his place in the Championship Team of the Season only amplifies that notion.

Hermansen and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall were the only Leicester players named in the team, so clearly, the Danish shot-stopper has been one of the most influential figures in Maresca’s side.

The 23-year-old has been a deep-lying playmaker this term, becoming an extra man to build out from the back.

Further, he has the third-best save percentage in the division, as per FBref, which evinces what a safe pair of hands he’s been, too.
