"How on earth": Michail Antonio says he "couldn't think straight" after losing to Crystal Palace last weekend

Last weekend we saw Crystal Palace absolutely batter West Ham in a 5-2 win, now Michail Antonio has revealed exactly how he felt afterwards.

Things are going well for Oliver Glasner right now, with three consecutive wins, Crystal Palace are flying high.

It all began at Anfield with that 1-0 win handing the Eagles squad an incredible confidence boost which now sees them heading into Saturday’s game against Fulham on the back of beating Newcastle midweek.

But last weekend, it was West Ham who suffered at the hands of the new Crystal Palace, with Glasner’s side running riot over the Hammers team.

Now a week on, West Ham striker Michail Antonio has shared his thoughts on the game but more specifically, how he felt afterwards.

Michail Antonio on losing to Crystal Palace

Antonio was speaking on the Footballers Football Podcast on Thursday and during a rant about Roy Keane, he began to explain how losing 5-2 against Palace made him feel.

“If you’ve got battered on the weekend,” Antonio explained, “which I did, it’s not a thing about being sad for two weeks, you’re meant to forget what happened.

“I drove up north on Sunday with no music, just thinking about the game. Three hours, and I popped up in Manchester and I was like ‘Oh my god I’m back’, literally I couldn’t think straight.

“I could only think about the game and how on earth we were 3-0 down in 21 minutes, it was embarrassing. I was embarrassed. So I was driving up north for three hours, no music, just thinking to myself like ‘what was going on today’.”

Oliver Glasner is even shocking rivals

Arriving in February, as Palace slipped dangerously close to the relegation battle, expectations for this campaign weren’t high.

He was expected to simply guarantee survival, with 2024-25 being eyed up as when he could kick on.

With this in mind, it’s quite miraculous to see the Palace beating sides who are challenging for Europe so convincingly, with just five points now separating the Eagles from Brighton which would be a sweet moment to overtake them.

Antonio’s comments on being embarrassed, are likely because of the relatively quick change at Palace which has surprised everyone and seemingly rivals are more surprised than anybody.
