David Prutton's prediction for Huddersfield v Birmingham City as Sheffield Wednesday pray for a draw

Sheffield Wednesday have another huge game ahead of them on Saturday. But they’ll also have a keen eye on one particular result elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday welcome West Brom to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls play their final home game of the season and it’s set to be a packed out stadium as fans watch Danny Rohl‘s side continue on their quest for Championship survival.

For the first time under the German, Wednesday are out of the bottom three following a 3-1 win at Blackburn Rovers last weekend.

Below them are Birmingham City in 22nd and Huddersfield Town in 23rd, and they both meet on Saturday.

Former Owls midfielder and now Sky Sports pundit David Prutton gave his score prediction for Sheffield Wednesday vs West Brom.

He said:

“I’ve been in a similar position with Wednesday, a very long time ago where, obviously it’s not the last day of the season, but pretty much there. A big crowd at Hillsborough, that was massive part of us beating Boro on the final day to secure safety, so this feels something similar.”

He added:

“And I think they do… I just think, momentum, confidence, and the overriding emotion that comes with what Wednesday have done, in this past week, carries them over the line.”

Prutton predicted a 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday win.

Birmingham City are on 46 points compared to Sheffield Wednesday’s 47, whilst Huddersfield Town are on 44.

If either side lose on Saturday and the Owls win, then the team that loses will be relegated.

But with both playing each other it means that the Owls can’t mathematically secure their Championship status until the final day of the season where they head to Sunderland.

So Rohl and co will certainly be paying attention to what happens at the John Smith’s Stadium, and Prutton has predicted a 1-1 draw between the two strugglers.

How would Huddersfield Town 1-1 Birmingham City impact Sheffield Wednesday

If Huddersfield vs Birmingham City ends 1-1 and Sheffield Wednesday lose against West Brom, that would bring Birmingham City level on points with Wednesday.

As things stand, Wednesday have a goal difference of -29 whilst Birmingham City’s goal difference is -16.

So if Blues draw against Huddersfield, like Prutton predicts, and Wednesday lose against top six hopefuls West Brom, then that pulls Sheffield Wednesday back into the drop zone.

Huddersfield Town have a goal difference of -27 and so if they win on Saturday and Sheffield Wednesday lose, that also throws the Owls into the bottom three on goal difference.

So a 1-1 draw like Prutton predicts would be the most ideal result from a Sheffield Wednesday viewpoint.

There’s everything to play for then in what has built up to be a dramatic climax in the Championship.
