'They did': Pundit shares what they noticed about Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk in Chelsea draw

Chelsea once again got off to a slow start in their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa tonight.

In Chelsea‘s 5-0 hammering at the hands of Arsenal earlier this week, it took Leandro Trossard just four minutes to put Mikel Arteta’s side ahead.

It was a similar theme for the Blues at Villa Park earlier, with Marc Cucurella turning the ball into the back of his own net before five minutes had even been played.

Not too many Chelsea supporters would have been surprised, as Mauricio Pochettino‘s men have been extremely poor at the back of late.

Next up for Chelsea is another tough game against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk’s defending

Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk and everyone else who played for Chelsea in their 5-0 defeat against Arsenal obviously did not defend well.

However, while Madueke and Mudryk were unable to prevent the Blues from conceding another early goal, one pundit thought they did something good just before Cucurella put the ball into the wrong net.

Commentating on the game for TNT Sports (27/04/2024 at 20:06), Lucy Ward said: “Just watching Madueke and Mudryk because they didn’t track back and support the full-backs enough against Arsenal, and they did in that sort of passage of play.”

Mykhailo Mudryk did not do enough in first half

While Mudryk’s tracking back may have improved, the winger could not make much of an impact going forward in the first half.

As he often does, Mudryk did look a bit threatening with his direct dribbling. However, the shots he managed to get away were wayward.

In total, the Ukraine international has scored just four goals in the Premier League this season.

It is not enough for someone who is one of the club’s most expensive ever signings.

It would now not be a surprise to see Raheem Sterling take his place when Chelsea host Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
