Tottenham Hotspur meet with £60m player’s agent as summer bid seriously considered

Tottenham Hotspur snapped up James Maddison last summer but Ange Postecoglou and co would be wise to consider adding another playmaker in the coming months.

Maddison started the season in great form after a £40million summer move from Leicester City but hasn’t quite rediscovered his best form of late.

The England international picked up an injury in November and his performances have been a little hot and cold since.

The problem for Tottenham is that Postecoglou doesn’t have another playmaker – well, at least one that he trusts to play big minutes.

Giovani Lo Celso is still an option in the Tottenham squad but the Argentinian hasn’t really played a prominent role this season.

Lo Celso will surely be on the move this summer and that could pave the way for another playmaker to arrive.

Fenerbahce playmaker Sebastian Szymanski is believed to be a prime target but Tottenham are also being linked with another playmaker.

Tottenham Hotspur want Heorhiy Sudakov

Reports earlier in April suggested that Tottenham were seriously considering a move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Heorhiy Sudakov.

The Mirror now claim that Tottenham have in fact met with the player’s agent in the last week.

Vadim Shablii posted a photo from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium just a few days ago, confirming his visit to Spurs.

The problem is that Shakhtar allegedly want to spark a ‘bidding war’ with Sudakov with Juventus and Napoli already interested.

Tottenham don’t really want to get involved in a bidding war and won’t really want to pay his release clause either.

Sudakov’s contract contains a release clause of around £128million, a fee which Tottenham certainly won’t be paying any time soon.

Shakhtar snubbed a £34million bid from Napoli in January and may well have a much bigger fee in mind – especially after selling Mykhailo Mudryk to Chelsea for £89million in 2023.

£60million has been mentioned in recent weeks with Shakhtar accepting that Sudakov will ‘definitely’ leave the club soon.

Who is Spurs target Sudakov?

Sudakov started in the youth ranks of hometown club Sokil Brianka before heading to Metalist Khrakiv and then Shakhtar in 2017.

The 21-year-old has now played nearly 100 times for Shakhtar, racking up 18 goals and 15 assists in the process.

Sudakov has bagged 14 caps for Ukraine too and his style of play may explain why Tottenham are so keen.

Sudakov told The Telegraph earlier this season that he compares his style of play to none other than Spurs ace Maddison.

Manchester City’s Phil Foden is another player Sudakov compared himself too, so a mixture of those two players would be an exciting proposition under Postecoglou.

Meeting with Sudakov’s agent is a step in the right direction but this one is likely to come down to the price tag involved with Shakhtar seemingly seeking big money.
