‘Player’: Matty Cash hails Arsenal star after they do Aston Villa a huge favour

Arsenal secured a valuable win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday and it’s a feeling Aston Villa will know well.

With Unai Emery’s men sitting fourth in the Premier League table, one of the main reasons behind that is their wins in north London this season.

In actual fact, Aston Villa have faired well in London full stop. Wins at Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, Fulham and Brentford. They play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on the final day of the season.

Whilst they picked up a draw at West Ham United before the international break. That’s a pretty good record given the difficulties of traveling to the capital.

But on Sunday, those from the Midlands would have watched on as Mikel Arteta’s side secured bragging rights in the north London derby.

It’s a result Villa fans would have been cheering on because it has aided them in their hopes to finish fourth this season.

Tottenham are chasing them down – they are now seven points behind, with two games in hand and a much worse goal difference.

Less than 24 hours before, Villa shot themselves in the foot by leading 2-0 against Chelsea and then going on to only record a 2-2 draw.

But given that Arsenal beat Spurs, that then proved to be a point gained, rather than two lost, which many felt just moments after the full-time whistle had blown.

Matty Cash praises Declan Rice

One man who seems to have been watching on was Villa right-back Matty Cash, who praised Declan Rice on Instagram.

When the Arsenal midfielder posted on social media, in the comments section of his post, Cash simply wrote ‘player’, with several other Villa fans also thanking him for their help.

Aston Villa in the Champions League

When Emery was at Arsenal, he missed out on fourth by one point, and ironically enough, that was against Tottenham and also proceeded to lose the Europa League final.

It’s funny what life throws up because he is now in a very similar position with Villa.

Finishing fourth is now in our hands, plus on Thursday night we play Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League semi-final first-leg.

This is a huge chance for the team to win a European trophy and make a return to the Champions League.

If they do, then it would be a massive achievement for the team and also for Emery to put the wrongs of his Arsenal tenure right.
