Yuito Suzuki profiled after Tottenham Hotspur scouting rumour

Tottenham Hotspur came up short in the North London derby against Arsenal on Sunday and that places even more importance on the summer transfer window.

The state of affairs in North London was difficult to stomach for Tottenham fans.

Arsenal raced into a 3-0 lead before half-time, picking off Tottenham with two set-pieces and a counter-attack goal.

Tottenham hit back with two goals in the second half but it wasn’t enough to come back from that first-half deficit.

Nobody likes losing a derby game but the manner of the defeat – especially after losing 4-0 at Newcastle United a fortnight ago – certainly stings.

It’s easy to forget that we are still in the first year of the Ange Postecoglou era and Tottenham, as much as it pains us to say it, need more time to really challenge Arsenal.

More transfer windows are needed in order to mould the squad Postecoglou wants and this summer will be crucial to hopefully improving this Tottenham side.

Tottenham scout Yuito Suzuki

Postecoglou may have some targets in mind and a new name is potentially emerging.

Bold in Denmark claim that Tottenham were one of a number of clubs represented at Brondby’s 2-1 win over Midtjylland last week.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Nantes, Ajax, Stuttgart, Union Berlin, Real Sociedad, Hoffenheim, Genk, Wolfsburg and Parma all joined Tottenham in watching the game.

The main attraction was Brondby forward Yuito Suzuki, who scored both goals in the victory before then scoring against Nordsjaelland on Sunday.

Suzuki has now racked up 10 goals and seven assists in 25 games for Brondby.

A striker who can also play as a number 10 and out wide, Suzuki is making a huge impact in Denmark and Tottenham watched him put Midtjylland to the sword.

Tottenham also scouted Brondby in February, so there certainly appears to be a player on the radar there with Suzuki making himself impossible to ignore.

Who is Brondby talent Suzuki?

Suzuki broke through with Shimizu S-Pulse in his native Japan, racking up 96 appearances but scoring just seven goals.

The 22-year-old headed off on loan to Strasbourg in January 2023 but was only given three first-team appearances with the French side.

That allowed Brondby to pounce with a permanent deal and their faith in Suzuki is now being repaid.

“Suzuki has some qualities that make him a player we don’t see very often in the Super League,” said boss Jesper Sorensen. “We saw great potential when he arrived. The investment we made in getting him well integrated is really well spent.”

“He has incredible technique and balance. He gets out of tight battles, even if he is hard pressed. He finishes equally well with both feet, even though he is right-footed,” he added.

Postecoglou is well aware of the top Japanese talents and he actually came up against Suzuki during his time in the J1 League.

Suzuki featured three times for Shimizu S-Pulse against Postecoglou’s Yokohama F. Marinos side – and Ange came out victorious on all three occasions.

Perhaps Postecoglou saw some potential in Suzuki back then and now wants Tottenham to keep tabs on him as he shines in Denmark.

A summer deal would be a surprise at this stage in his development, but with Tottenham active in the Scandinavian markets thanks to Johan Lange, Suzuki is a name to keep tabs on.
