Three ‘biggest mistakes’ to avoid with coffee

There are numerous ways to prepare coffee and according to Dr. Robert Love, some methods are best avoided owing to the harm they can cause. Here are three things to never have to do with your coffee.

Don’t add dairy to coffee

Adding dairy to coffee can eliminate the benefits, says the neuroscientist. The proteins in dairy can bind its component called polyphenols, making the properties of coffee less absorbable.

Dr. Robert suggests using MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) oils such as coconut oil, which is believed to be a much better option for the brain.

For the unversed, polyphenols are associated with reduced aging of the brain owing to their antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.

Avoid sugar or artificial sweeteners

Including sugar and artificial sweeteners in coffee causes the blood sugar to spike. This can result in inflammation and risk of type-2 diabetes.

The neuroscientist instead recommends three healthier and natural sugar substitutes that aren’t as harmful to your brain.

In another video on TikTok, Dr. Robert explains in detail the benefits of Allulose, Monk Fruit, and Stevia.

Always go for organic coffee, light roast

The neuroscientist says any coffee that isn’t organic is processed with a lot of pesticides, which is dangerous for the brain.

Whereas, light roast coffee is said to carry more benefits and caffeine than dark roast, and the method used to make it also matters.

The neuroscientist suggests drip coffee to get the most out of Polyphenols instead of French Press or espresso.

Dr. Robert Love is a neuroscientist, researcher, and educator with over 2.1 million followers on TikTok.

His work has been featured on television networks and magazines, while he’s leading a research team investigating a new FDA drug to help reverse Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

He “specializes in helping people prevent Alzheimer’s disease with science” and he’s the ” most watched neuroscientist on the planet,” according to his LinkedIn bio.
