Scooter rider critically injured after being hit by SUV in N.J. intersection

A man riding an electric sit-down scooter was critically injured after an SUV struck him early Tuesday at an intersection in Burlington Township, officials said.

The scooter rider was hit at 5:13 a.m. at the corner of Sunset and Salem roads, Burlington Township police said.

Emergency workers found the rider — a Burlington Township resident in his 30s — unconscious but breathing. He was brought to an area hospital where he was in critical but stable condition with head and facial injuries, police said.

The SUV driver remained at the scene. The driver was not be charged, police said.
