"Since he started training with us": Jeffrey Schlupp says he's been blown away by Crystal Palace teenager

Jeffrey Schlupp has now heaped praise on one teenage talent at Crystal Palace.

The Crystal Palace No.15 reminded fans exactly what he is capable of during Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham, smashing in a Goal of the Season contender to earn a point at Craven Cottage.

At the age of 31, the Ghana international is one of the more senior players at Selhurst Park nowadays, racking up 229 appearances in total for the Eagles.

During that time, Jeffrey Schlupp has seen a number of young talents blossom at Crystal Palace, such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and there is now another youngster catching the eye…

Jeffrey Schlupp praises David Ozoh

Well, the man from Hamburg has been left very impressed by David Ozoh.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign this season, amassing nine Premier League appearances in total as the teenager makes a name for himself at Selhurst Park.

Speaking to Crystal Palace’s official website about Ozoh, Schlupp said: “David has been with us for a little while now. I would say a couple of years since he started training with us. He obviously had Paddy (McCarthy) as his coach with the U21s, and Paddy is always helping him along. Seeing him come into the first-team as a man, and not a young boy coming on any more, he’s done well.

“He played a massive part coming on against City, for example, getting back to 2-2. He’s been thrown in the deep end and he’s really held his own which is nice to see.”

Ozoh has – in our view at least – been one of the shining lights amid what has largely been quite a disappointing campaign.

As Schlupp mentions, the Valencia-born wonderkid was instrumental in us claiming a shock point at the Etihad Stadium, and continued to impress fans with a spirited display off the bench in the 3-2 win over Sheffield United.

Oliver Glasner has a decision to make with Crystal Palace No.52 this summer

For whatever reason, Oliver Glasner hasn’t used Ozoh much since replacing Roy Hodgson – handing the England U18 international just 21 minutes of Premier League action.

Of course, competition in central midfield is fierce, and with rumours of a move for Wilfred Ndidi doing the rounds, the Austrian has a decision to make as to whether he wants to keep the Crystal Palace No.52 at Selhurst Park next season, or loan him out.

It would be a shame to see Ozoh depart on loan, given his passionate performances this season.

Having said that, Crystal Palace arguably made a mistake in failing to find Jesurun Rak-Sakyi a loan move this season and stunted his development, so perhaps it would be for the best to secure Ozoh regular playing time elsewhere this summer.
