Club are about to sign a replacement for £70m rated centre-back, Liverpool want him this summer

Liverpool might have chance of signing a £70m rated centre-back, with his club looking likely to sign a replacement for him.

One area where Liverpool will be looking to strengthen is in the centre-back department. With Joel Matip looking likely to leave, and the club’s options already thin, a new reinforcement is needed.

The reinforcement needs to be relatively young to fit FSG and Michael Edwards’ profile and someone who would be capable of playing both as a left-sided and as a right-sided centre-back.

There is someone who fits that profile perfectly in Ousmane Diomande of Sporting CP, and his club are just about to sign a replacement for him, who was also previously on Liverpool’s radar as well.

Who Sporting CP are about to sign to replace Ousmane Diomande

Ousmane Diomande has been on Liverpool’s radar, and he ticks pretty much every box. He’s capable of playing anywhere across the back four and is very comfortable in possession.

Only 20-years-old, Diomande is still really young and has a very high ceiling. He’s been brilliant since coming into the Sporting CP side this season.

Now it seems like he might even be available in the market based on Sporting CP’s recent activity.

According to Record in Portugal, Sporting CP are closing in on the signing of Anderlecht defender Zeno Debast.

The Belgian international is also a highly rated centre-back, who has been on Liverpool’s radar in the past. It seems like he will be a natural replacement for Diomande, with Sporting CP potentially looking more open to entertaining offers for the Ivorian.

How much would Ousmane Diomande cost Liverpool?

According to the most recent reports, Diomande has a £70m release clause in his Sporting CP contract. That’s not a cheap figure.

However, with Michael Edwards back at the helm, it’s a figure that he might be able to negotiate. Liverpool have been able to do some good deals in Portugal recently, and secured some top signings from Portuguese clubs.

With that connection being so strong, the possibility is there for the club to negotiate a favourable deal for the centre-back.
