West Ham blow with Aston Villa reportedly in strong position to sign 28-yo after 2028 contract offer

West Ham United reportedly face a very big transfer problem this summer, all courtesy of Aston Villa.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be a very big opportunity for West Ham to strengthen their ranks.

Numerous new signings are needed, with up to 12 players being linked with the London Stadium exit door.

David Moyes is being heavily linked with an exit from the Hammers, with Paulo Fonseca amongst the list of names being eyed up as potential replacements for the Scot.

However, whoever is in charge come the summer is irrelevant really. Signing some top-class players will be key, especially a new central defender.

Unfortunately for us though, it seems like Villa could be about to deal us a very big blow…

Big transfer blow for West Ham

Aston Villa are quite clearly in a much stronger position than us right now, both on the pitch and financially.

And bearing that in mind, the latest news should be seen as a very big problem for the Hammers…

According to a report from Sabah, Villa are the club most likely to sign Mario Hermoso this summer, and have made a contract offer to him – one that runs until the summer of 2028.

The Atletico Madrid centre-back is a top transfer target for the Hammers this summer, so Villa’s interest in him is obviously not ideal.

Described by well renowned Spanish website Football Espana as an ‘incredible’ player, Hermoso would certainly add a lot to Moyes’s defensive options at the London Stadium.

The 28-year-old is obviously well-versed in playing in an extremely organised and well-drilled back-line under Diego Simeone at the Civitas Metropolitano Stadium.

In 26 La Liga appearances for Atleti this season, Hermoso has averaged 1.5 tackles, 1.1 interception, 2.8 clearances and 1.8 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

Standing at 6ft tall, the Spain international isn’t the tallest of central defenders, but he more than makes up for that with an impressive spring and leap.

He can play at left-back as well, and the fact that he is left-footed makes him the ideal upgrade on Nayef Aguerd and the perfect long-term replacement for Angelo Ogbonna.

Hermoso is fairly quick along the ground and he reads the game exceptionally well. He’d be perfect for the Hammers.

Unfortunately for us though, Aston Villa are apparently ready to deal West Ham a big transfer blow in the summer by beating us to Hermoso’s signature.
